Carson-Newman University offers an online master’s degree in the family nurse practitioner (FNP) specialization. Registered nurses holding a bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN) are eligible to apply for this online degree program. Designed for the working professional, this online MSN-FNP program enables students to continue their nursing practice while enhancing their skills and advancing their careers.
This FNP degree program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Graduates of this advanced practice nursing program are prepared to take national certification exams and to administer primary care to individuals and families in a variety of healthcare settings.
The MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program
Located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, Carson-Newman University trains future family nurse practitioners to deliver holistic primary care for individuals across the lifespan. All faculty members are active nurse practitioners, and courses are delivered entirely online in an asynchronous format; students can log in any time to access lectures and course assignments. Also, each FNP student is assigned an advisor to provide guidance and support throughout the program.
The MSN-FNP at Carson-Newman may be completed in as few as 32 months, including all coursework, clinical and practicum experiences, and an on-campus residency. Course topics include advanced health assessment, research methods and design in nursing, and advanced primary nursing care for adults, among others. The single three-day campus residency affords students the opportunity to connect with faculty and cohort members and to participate in hands-on skills practice, as well as a physical exam assessment.
Above all, Carson-Newman, a Christian University, prepares advanced practice nursing professionals to be “empowered and autonomous” caregivers.
