Graceland University offers MSN, RN to MSN, and post-MSN certificate programs with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner for registered nurses who want to work in primary care settings with patients across the lifespan. All three tracks in the FNP program include advanced coursework in health assessment, human physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and the care of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients within the context of the family unit. Students in the FNP program are required to complete 720 clinical practicum hours spread over pediatric care, adult care, and family care settings. Students are also required to attend one on-campus focus session during which they meet with classmates and course faculty.
Graceland University’s Online MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program
The MSN FNP program requires the completion of 47 credit hours, divided into 23 credit hours of MSN Core classes and 24 credit hours of FNP track specialty courses. Students can complete the MSN program in 32 months to 48 months depending on how many courses they take during each semester. Core classes include Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning, Research Methods and Evidence Based Practice, Advanced Pathophysiology, and Pharmacotherapeutics. Specialty track courses include Advanced Practice Nursing in Primary Care, Primary Care of Families: Pediatrics, and Primary Care of Families: Adults.
The MSN program also requires students to complete 720 hours of clinical practicum in settings that are relevant to family primary care, at a medical facility that is close to their area of residence. Students must complete 240 hours of clinical practicum across the following three categories: Pediatrics, Adults, and Families. During the completion of their practicum, students should expect at minimum 16-24 hours of work per week, and will receive supervision and guidance from both a preceptor and a faculty member from Graceland University’s nursing program.
In addition to the coursework and clinical practicum, students must attend one two-day on-campus intensive, which provides them with the opportunity to interact with course faculty, participate in learning activities, complete in-person competency requirements, and connect with their peers.
Graceland University’s Online RN to MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program
The RN to MSN FNP Program at Graceland University is comprised of 71 credit hours, divided into BSN coursework and MSN classes. Students can complete the program in 42 months to 76 months depending on course load each semester. This program accepts RNs who have an ADN or Nursing Diploma and who need to earn their BSN before continuing on to earn their MSN. Undergraduate coursework for this program includes Community Health Nursing, Global Health and Policy Issues, and Evidence-Based Practice, while graduate-level coursework includes Advanced Pathophysiology, Pharmacotherapeutics, and Theory in Nursing. Students must also attend one on-campus intensive during the program, as part of the MSN portion of the curriculum.
Graceland University’s Online Post-MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program
Graceland University’s online post-MSN FNP program is comprised of 33 course credits that students can complete over the course of 24 months of part-time study. This program is suitable for RNs who already hold an MSN from a CCNE or ACEN-accredited institution and who wish to obtain training in advanced practice primary care nursing within a family care setting. Courses in the program include Primary Care of Families: Pediatrics, Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning, and Advanced Pathophysiology. As with the MSN and RN to MSN tracks, students are required to visit the campus once during the program for two days.
