Saint Joseph’s College offers online MSN and post-MSN certificate programs with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner for registered nurses who wish to work with children and middle aged and elderly adults in primary care settings. Family nurse practitioners focus on medical care within the context of the family unit, and are trained to monitor and address the health problems of children, adolescents, mothers, fathers, and grandparents. Saint Joseph’s online MSN program with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner is comprised of 46 course credits, which students can complete over the course of two years of full-time study or three to four years of part-time study. Classes in the program include Nursing Research Methods: Utilization for Evidence Based Practice, Organizational and Systems Leadership, Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Pharmacology, and Nursing Informatics. In addition to completing the academic curriculum, students must complete 600 hours of clinical practicum divided over the course of three practicum courses that focus on Children and Women of Childbearing Years, Young and Middle Age Adults, and Older Adults. Students fulfill their practicum hours at a local medical facility, under the supervision of a preceptor and a faculty member from Saint Joseph’s College.

Saint Joseph’s College also offers an online post-MSN program for registered nurses who already hold an MSN from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited institution. It is comprised of 28 credits that focus on advanced practice family nursing in primary care settings. Classes in the program include the courses from the Family Nurse Practitioner concentration, such as Family Theory: Young and Middle Age Adult, Family Theory: Older Adult, and Family Theory: Children and Women of Childbearing Years, as well as courses that are central to advanced practice registered nursing such as Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Pharmacology, and Advanced Pharmacology. As with the MSN program, this post-MSN program requires the completion of 600 clinical practicum hours under the supervision of a preceptor and a faculty member.
Admission Requirements for Saint Joseph’s Online FNP Programs
All applicants to Saint Joseph’s College’s online FNP programs must hold an unrestricted registered nurse license in their state of residence. Candidates for the online MSN program must have completed a BSN from an institution that has been accredited by CCNE or ACEN, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Individuals applying to the online post-MSN FNP certificate program must hold a Master of Science in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN-accredited institution, and have maintained a minimum overall GPA of 3.5 during their graduate program.
Applicants must submit official transcripts of all post-secondary education they have completed, as well as a professional resume, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. No standardized test scores, like the GRE, are required for admission.
